All treadmills make a certain type of noise during use, especially new treadmills. For example, you may hear a “thump” or “chirp” noise coming from your Tread during a workout, which are normal operating noises. Other noises could just mean that your Tread belt needs to be realigned. Please read below for more information on how to determine if the noise you are hearing is abnormal.
- Note: While these steps can be used as a guide, this is not an all-inclusive list of potential Tread noises.
If you encounter a noise that is very loud, a different noise than described below or a noise that prevents you from working out, please contact our Member Support Team by clicking here.
First Step: Check for Maintenance
Let's start by confirming that your Tread is stable and properly leveled, and that the belt is aligned. Instability or uneven leveling can lead to vibration, and a misaligned belt can lead to noise. Using your Tread on a hardwood or concrete floor can create more reverberation and noise than using it on a carpeted floor or heavy rubber mat.
To level and align your Peloton Tread, please follow the steps below:
Leveling the Tread | Aligning the Tread Belt |
If you are still experiencing the same noise after leveling your Tread and aligning the belt, please proceed to the next step.
If you are no longer experiencing the same noises, please click here.
Second Step: Normal Noises Belt Seam
We are sorry to hear that your Tread continues to make unexpected noises! Please select from the options below to determine where the noise could be coming from.
What does the noise coming from your Tread sound like?
The noise sounds like a “Thump.”
The rhythmic thumping noise being emitted from your Tread is normal. This is caused by the belt seam on our custom belt rotating around the deck.
The noise sounds like a “Chirp.”
The noise is normal and will fade as the Tread warms up and runs at speeds above 3 mph. If the noise persists after several minutes, please contact Member Support by clicking here.
The noise does not sound like a "Thump" or "Chirp."
Please contact our Member Support Team by clicking here and providing a video of the noise so that we can diagnose the issue. Here are the guidelines for the video:
- Video Length: ~15 secs.
- Video Size: 20MB or under (anything larger will be rejected as an email attachment).
- Volume lowered unless the issue relates to the speakers.
- Focused on the area where the issue is being reported.
- Please also make sure to collect the serial number of your Peloton.
Noise Fixed After Alignment & Leveling
If the noise you were experiencing has disappeared after aligning or leveling your Tread, you are all set and ready to resume your Tread workouts. We can’t wait to see you back on the Leaderboard!
