Attaching and Replacing Your Bike Cleats
It’s important your cleats are properly attached to get the smoothest and safest ride possible. To attach or replace your cleats, please follow the instructions below:
You will need a 4mm Allen wrench for this replacement, such as the one provided in your Bike/Bike+ toolkit.
To attach and replace your cleats, please refer to the instructions or video below:

These instructions can also be found in the Altos User Manual.
1. Position each cleat over the three screw holes on the bottom of your shoes.
2. Set the washers into the recesses of the cleats and place a screw into each screw hole.
- Tip: If you are setting up cycling shoes for the first time, we recommend that you start with the cleats pushed all the way back and adjust them if you experience discomfort while riding.
3. Using the 4mm Allen wrench, tighten the screws to securely attach them to your shoes.
To check and see if your cleat is properly aligned, begin to pedal and make sure the pressure falls in the ball of your foot. The ball of your foot should be directly over the pedal axle.
We recommend checking the screws on the cleats are still tight once a month to ensure proper maintenance and the best ride.
If you notice discomfort in your feet, legs, or knees, check your cleats to make sure they are straight. Over time, the screws will loosen, causing your cleats to shift. When your cleats are loose, you will notice difficulty while clipping in/out, or you will notice a noise coming from your cleats. To fix this, straighten your cleats and tighten the screws until the cleats are secure. We also recommend tightening your screws once a month to ensure a silent ride.
CAUTION:
- Make sure that your cleats are properly positioned, and all bolts are fully tightened before clipping in. Check for and tighten loose pedals on a regular basis. Riding with loose cleats or pedals could lead to serious injury.
- Do not attempt to walk in cycling shoes with cleats. Wear cycling shoes only while using the Peloton Bike/Bike+ and remove them immediately after clipping out. Walking on cleats may cause you to fall or twist your ankle, or otherwise result in serious injury.
- Be careful when clipping in and out. While you may need to use some force, excessive force or aggressive movements could result in an ankle, foot, or leg injury.
