Using Output on Your Peloton Tread
Metric Glossary
Output, measured in Watts, is how much power you are exerting at any point in time. You can increase your output by increasing your speed, your incline, or both.
Total Output, measured in KJ (kilojoules), is how much work you've done over the whole workout. This is calculated by taking the average output times the number of seconds in the workout divided by 1,000. For instance, if you average 100 Watts in a 2,700-second workout (45 minutes), your total output will be 270 KJ. If you want to increase your total output and move up the leaderboard, you'll need to keep your output high over the full workout. This may mean increasing your speed or incline, possibly even above what the instructor recommends.
Your Speed, measured in mph (miles per hour), is calculated by how many miles you would travel in one hour walking or running on the Tread.
- Speed is controlled by the knob on the right of the Tread. Rolling the knob forward increases the speed; rolling it backward decreases the speed. Pressing the button in the middle of the knob increases the speed to the next whole number.
- If set to the metric system, the conversion to kph will appear to the right of the "Speed" label, above the speed metric.
Incline, measured in % (percent), is the amount that describes how much the front of the Tread is raised above the starting base of the Tread.
- Incline is controlled by the knob on the left of the Tread. Rolling the knob forward increases the incline; rolling it backward decreases the incline. Pressing the button in the middle of the knob increases the incline to the next whole percent grade.
Your Pace, measured in min/mi (minutes per mile), is the average number of minutes it takes you to complete a mile while traveling at your current speed. Note: If set to the metric system, the pace will show in min/km.
A Split, measured in min/mi (minutes per mile), is the number of minutes it has taken you to complete your last mile. Splits are updated at the end of each mile and are tracked against your precious mile to show whether the time has increased, decreased, or has stayed the same. Note: If set to the metric system, the pace will show in min/km.
Using Output on your Peloton Tread
By increasing your output throughout your workout, you will increase your Total Output and move up the Leaderboard.
The Peloton Leaderboard, resetting your personal record, and output readings are intended to be fun and useful tools, offering directional performance measurement that help you motivate and achieve their individual fitness goals. In order to continue to challenge your fitness goals, the ability to reset your PR score can be done in your Profile setting on your Peloton Tread. To learn more about resetting your PR, click here.
