Peloton is committed to providing the best, most immersive, and accessible experiences for all of our Members. We’re proud to add TalkBack to the Peloton Tread to allow Members to receive spoken feedback from the Peloton Tread touchscreen.
TalkBack, a screen reader developed by Google®, allows Members to have their metrics (speed, incline, output) read to them when they tap on the touchscreen and provides assistance when entering their Tread Lock passcode, adjusting the speed/incline, and navigating the Peloton Tread menus.

TalkBack: Handrail
The Peloton Handrail is present to help stabilize you if you feel like you are off balance or falling. Use the Handrail for support, but avoid resting your whole weight on the Handrail. Please orient yourself with the Handrail before using the Peloton Tread.
TalkBack: Safety Key
The Peloton Tread only functions when the Safety Key is present and fully engaged.
The Tread’s Safety Key port is located underneath the Stop button in the middle of the handlebar. To attach the Safety Key, insert the magnet end into the Safety Key port below the Stop button. The Tread will play a chime when you have successfully connected it. Once you are clipped in, tap the touchscreen to wake it up. Please note, you can disable tap-to-wake by toggling it off in the device settings. You will then be able to wake up your Tread, by pressing the stop button, interacting with the speed or incline knobs, or pressing the power button on the back of the Tread tablet.
If the Safety Key is detached while the Peloton Tread’s belt is moving, the belt comes to an immediate stop, an urgent chime is played, and the touchscreen announces “Stopping Tread, Safety Key pulled”. To resume using your Tread, reattach the Safety Key. If your Tread is at an incline, reattaching the Safety Key will automatically start moving the incline of your Tread belt to 0%.
If the Safety Key is detached and Peloton Tread’s belt is not moving, a less urgent chime is played and the touchscreen announces “Safety Key pulled”.
Always remember to remove the Safety Key and store it in a separate location out of the reach of children when the Peloton Tread is not in use.

Remember to attach the Safety Key to your clothing anytime you are on the Peloton Tread. Before you get moving, we recommend keeping one or both hands on the handrail that wraps around the front and sides of the Tread and that you stay aware of your location on the belt at all times. To increase or decrease the speed on your Tread:
- Locate the Speed Knob. The Speed Knob is in the center of the right handrail.
