What are Peloton Guide Rep Tracking Classes?
In Peloton Guide Rep Tracking classes, the Peloton Guide will track your reps for you as you perform a movement and will record that number so you can review it after class. Instructors will set a recommended rep target for you to hit for each exercise. As you complete reps for the given movement, you will see the total number of reps in the rep tracker increase. Rep Tracking Classes may also have Time-Tracked movements, where you will be aiming to hold a position for an allotted amount of time, set by the instructor.
Rep Tracking classes also take into account which weights you use for each exercise and use that information to calculate your Volume for the class. Volume is a personal metric that measures the total amount of weight you have lifted in a class as a function of weight and reps. The goal is to give you an easy way to compare your performance across strength workouts. While Volume is intended to motivate you, it is not meant to push you past your physical abilities.
At the end of a workout, you will be able to see a summary of the total reps you completed per movement in that class. If you take this class again, you will be able to see how many reps you completed, what weights you used, and your Volume for each movement during the class as compared to previous attempts at the class.
Choosing the Right Weights for Strength Training
For the best in-class experience, we recommend using weights during Peloton Guide Rep tracking classes. Having at least three sets of dumbbells (Light, Medium and Heavy weights) on hand will ensure that you have the right weight for the variety of movements that are offered in Peloton Strength classes.
Light, Medium, and Heavy Dumbbells
Our instructors will help cue which weights to use for any given exercise. With your chosen weight, you should be able to keep the correct form right up until your last rep. If you are new to strength training, we recommend starting with light to medium weights and working your way up.
Light Dumbbells might be used for movements with smaller muscle groups, like lateral or front raises.
Medium Dumbbells might be used for movements with medium muscle groups, like bicep curls.
Heavy Dumbbells might be used for lower body movements with larger muscle groups, like goblet squats or split squats.
Adding Weights to Your Profile
Before your first Rep Tracking class, you will be prompted to add weights to your profile. You will be able to input any fixed dumbbell value you own as a pair in pounds or kilograms. These weights will then be referenced before and during every rep counting class, so that you can make adjustments more easily.
Assigning and Adjusting Your Weights for a Peloton Guide Rep Tracking Class
Before starting every Rep Tracking class that requires weights, you'll be asked to select what dumbbells you'll be using as your Light, Medium, and/or Heavy weights for that workout. The values you enter for those weight categories will then be referenced during class and automatically assigned to each movement you perform, according to what the instructor has programmed.
In class, if the auto-assigned weights are too light or heavy for you for a given movement and you need to adjust them, you can use your remote to change the weight designation in class by pressing the Up button on the remote or, if enabled, by using Voice Commands, i.e. by saying “OK Peloton, change weight to 20 pounds.”

Changing Your Default Weight Units
Your default weight units are determined by your Display Language and Region settings. You can change your default weight units by selecting the “Weight Units” toggle in Settings. Your Weight Units determine if your Volume is displayed in pounds or kilograms.
If you change your default weight units after you have saved dumbbells in your Weight Inventory, your existing dumbbells in your weight inventory will not be impacted. You can have a mix of dumbbells in your weight inventory stored in both LB and/or KG.
If you do not own dumbbells or would like to expand your weight inventory, you can purchase dumbbells here.
Note: Rep Tracking classes are optimized for regular dumbbells, and are currently not designed for kettlebells, resistance bands or other resistance types.
Peloton Guide also offers Movement Tracking Classes. Learn more here.
