On May 5, 2021, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Peloton announced the voluntary recall of Peloton’s Tread+ treadmill. As part of Peloton’s commitment to product safety and loyalty to our Members, we are voluntarily recalling Tread+ units. We are offering Members a refund as described below or, alternatively, to relocate the Tread+ to a location in your home where access by children or pets is restricted, free of charge. We also are continuing to work in cooperation with the CPSC on a rear guard to address the risk of pull-under at the back of the treadmill.
Please read this notice carefully.
October 2022 Update:
Peloton is voluntarily extending the availability of the full refund through November 6, 2023, while we work cooperatively with the CPSC on a rear guard that would help protect users against the risk of pull-under at the back of the treadmill. The CPSC controls the approval of the rear guard as part of Peloton’s voluntary recall.
Members who decide to return their Tread+ after November 6, 2023 will receive a prorated refund based on the date the unit was purchased. Alternatively, at your request, we will relocate the Tread+ to a location in your home where access by children or pets is restricted, free of charge.

- Please note: Tread+ recall refund amounts will include reimbursement of shipping costs when shipping was included in the original purchase price. For Members who purchased or obtained their Tread+ from a source other than Peloton (second-hand owners), Members are entitled to a refund of $3,945, which is the full cost of the Tread+ itself, excluding taxes and shipping
Tread+ Recall Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Peloton recalling the Tread+?
Peloton, in cooperation with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, is recalling the Tread+ because we received reports that adult users, children, pets, and objects have been pulled underneath the Treadmill, posing a risk of injury or death. Everyone at Peloton cares deeply about your health and wellness, including your safety. We feel that this is the right thing to do.
How do I know if I have a Tread+?
This recall involves the Peloton Tread+. It has a 32-inch high definition (HD) touchscreen console and 67-inch deck running space. The treadmill was launched as the Peloton Tread in 2018 but renamed Tread+ in September 2020. The Tread+ model number TR01 is printed on a black sticker located on the end cap in the front of the treadmill deck. The Tread+ has a touchscreen console and is black with the Peloton logo on the monitor and the side rails. See photos here.
How is the Tread+ different than the Tread?
The Tread+ is different from the Peloton Tread, which is model number TR02. The Tread has a running deck space of 59 inches, a 23.8-inch high definition (HD) touchscreen console, and a non-slatted running belt with a red line down the middle. See photos here.
The Peloton Tread was also recalled in May 2021 because the touchscreen console on that treadmill can detach and fall, posing a risk of injury to consumers. A repair for Tread consoles was made available in August 2021, see here for more details.
The Tread+ was sold only in the U.S. and the Tread was originally sold primarily in the UK and Canada, with a limited distribution of 1,000 units in the U.S.
What should I do if I have a Tread+?
After determining you have a Tread+, carefully review the options available set forth below and contact Peloton:
Refund: If you wish to return your Tread+ for a full refund, you may do so until November 6, 2023. After that date, we will permit returns for a partial, pro-rated refund based on the date the unit was purchased. If you’d like to request a refund, please enter your request here.
or
Relocate Tread+ within your home: Upon request, we will also offer a free service visit to your home to relocate the Tread+ to another appropriate space that you designate in your home where children and pets cannot access it during use. If you’d like to request relocation, please enter your request here.
Tread Lock Software Update: Regardless of whether you choose to return the product for a refund or request that it be moved to another room, Peloton has implemented a safety update on all Tread+ units that automatically locks the Tread+ after each use. To prevent unauthorized access, the owner of the Tread+ must create a 4-digit passcode that will be required to unlock the Tread+. This unique passcode should not be shared with anyone who should not use the Tread+, including persons under the age of 16 or others who cannot safely operate the Tread+.
I’m a Tread+ Member and had an incident with the product I never reported to the company. What should I do?
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We want to learn more about your experience. Please contact our Member Support Team by clicking here. Once you have reached out, someone from our team will give you a call back to gather additional details about what happened. Please note that we are required to share your personal contact information with the CPSC.
Can I continue to use the Tread+?
As our joint press release with the CPSC states, we strongly recommend that you immediately stop using the Tread+. Alternatively, at your request, we will relocate the Tread+ to a location in your home where access by children or pets is restricted, free of charge.
It is critically important to remember to always be aware of your surroundings while using exercise equipment and to keep children, pets, and objects away from the Tread+ at all times. Please note that serious injuries or death can still occur if a child, pet, or object contacts the back of the treadmill while it is in use. Always use the safety key at all times during a workout. When your workout is complete, make sure that the Tread+ is locked before you walk away and always store the safety key away from the device and out of the reach of children.
