Track detailed metrics and visualize your workouts on a map as you walk or run - just enable GPS location tracking in your app.
Once GPS is enabled, outdoor running, Bootcamp and walking workouts will display detailed metrics during and after your workout.
- Distance: Total distance travelled in miles or kilometres.
- Current: Your current pace
- Average: Your average pace over the entire course of your workout
- Best: Your best pace maintained over a 30 second period
- Total Elevation Gain: Your total elevation climbed over the course of your workout -not including downhill portions. For example, if you climb 100 feet, descend 50 feet, then climb 25 more feet, your total elevation gain will be 100+25 = 125 feet.
When temporarily stopped (e.g. at a stoplight), you’ll see your pace represented by the infinity symbol (∞) which indicates that you’ve stopped moving.
Visualize your class segments and mile markers on a map - both during and after your workout. On the map, you’ll see an icon for the start of every running segment and mile markers that show where each mile was completed.
Depending on your workout, you may see white dots on the map along your route. This indicates portions of the workout where location metrics were not being collected, for example, during the Bootcamp section of a workout. Your other metrics, like heart rate and calorie data, is still collected. You’ll also see the white dots if the class is paused or if your device lost GPS signal.
At the end of every workout, you’ll see a detailed summary of your outdoor workouts to make it even easier to track your progress. Under the map, you’ll see an overview of your pace, mile splits and speed (in addition to your heart rate if a monitor was used).
- Mile Splits: See your time for each mile of your workout. Use your splits to hit your training plan – for example, if you’re looking for consistency, try to hold the same pace for all of your splits. Or try to get faster with each mile.
- Speed: See your speed over the duration of your workout. It’s also a great way to compare your outdoor workouts to treadmill runs.
How to Enable GPS data
To enable these features, you just need to enable location services, which can be done from any outdoor run class or found in the ‘Running Route Tracking’ option in the ‘More’ tab under ‘Add-ons’.
You’ll be taken to your iOS location preference page, where you’ll just need to tap Location and update the access level to ‘While Using the App’. To turn it off, simply come back to this page and toggle access to ‘Never’.
By default, any Member that can view your profile can also view your outdoor workout maps.
By enabling the ‘Hide Running Route’ preference, your followers will still see your workout history, but only you will see your running route in your workout history. Just tap ‘More’ in the bottom right of the app and then ‘Preferences’. From here, toggle on the ‘Hide Running Route’ preference.
To limit which Members can see your profile, set your Peloton profile to private. Learn more about private profiles here.
- This feature is only available for outdoor running, walking, and Bootcamp classes.
- The map is only visible when viewed in portrait mode (not landscape).
- Tread Challenges - outdoor workouts taken with GPS enabled will count towards mileage goals for monthly Tread challenges. Note that you must join a running challenge on your Tread.
- Supported devices include any iOS device with GPS (iPhone, supported iPad models) running version 10.9.0 or higher of the Peloton iOS app. GPS is not available on Android at this time.
