Tightening Your Pedals
It’s important to maintain your pedals to keep them in good working order. We strongly recommend that you inspect your pedals on a monthly basis to make sure that they are clean, turn smoothly, and are free of any damage.
In addition, you should also tighten your pedals occasionally in order to make sure they are securely fitted to your Peloton Bike. To get familiar with the easy and important process of tightening your pedals, please watch the video below.
Also note:
- Before you tighten your pedals, lock the flywheel and crank in place by turning the knob fully to the right.
- The left pedal is reverse threaded. When facing the left-side crank arm, you must turn the pedal counter-clockwise to tighten it. Thus, turning to the left (towards the front of the Bike) tightens the left pedal.
- The right pedal is threaded normally, therefore, when facing the right-side crank arm, you must turn the pedal clockwise to tighten it. Thus, turning to the right (towards the front of the Bike) tightens the right pedal.
Replacing Your Pedals
Pedals on any stationary bike should be replaced regularly to avoid failures that can result from wear and tear. We highly recommend replacing your pedals annually as part of routine maintenance to ensure that your Peloton Bike remains in proper working order.

Adjusting Your Pedal Tension
If this is your first time clipping in and you're having difficulty, or if your shoes start to feel loose in the pedals, you can adjust the tension on the pedals for a more comfortable fit. The tension screws are located on the back of the pedals and help hold your cleats and shoes securely to the Bike or Bike+. Adjusting the tension periodically to ensure you have the optimal fit for your personal preference is recommended. Below is an image of the tension screw.

Before adjusting the tension on the pedals, lock the flywheel and crank in place by turning the knob fully to the right.
- Turn the pedal upside down so that screws are visible.
- The tension screws are located on the back of the pedals with a plus and minus sign above them.
- If you are having trouble clipping into your Bike or Bike+, or if it is too difficult to unclip from the Bike, we recommend loosening the pedal tension using the 3 millimeter Allen key included with your Bike.
- To loosen the pedal tension, turn the screw toward the minus sign (counterclockwise) one-quarter of a turn at a time. After each quarter turn, try clipping in.
- If it becomes too easy to clip in, we recommend tightening the pedal tension using the 3 millimeter Allen key included with your Bike.
- To tighten the pedal tension, turn the screw toward the plus sign (clockwise) one-quarter of a turn at a time. After each quarter turn, try clipping in.
